The Catholic Church and Interfaith Dialogue Workshop with an Introduction to the Focolare Movement
On Tuesday, April 8th 2014, the IIIS held a workshop with the presence of leading figures of the Focolare Movement from Italy.
During this four hour workshop held in two sessions and benefited from the presence of the Head of the IIIS; Dr. Roberto Catalano presented a talk about Focolare Christianity. In this talk, he first touched on the history of Christianity and Christian’s relationship with Muslims, and then moved on to the birth and emerge of the Focolare movement.
The students then posed a number of questions, which Dr. Catalano gave his thoughts on.
Thereafter, Prof. Powel Lamri presented a speech with the topic of “The Interfaith Dialogue Teachings of the Catholic Church”.
He stressed the fact that “love and affection” is the very essence of the religion of Christianity and explained its different aspects from the Christian point of view. He then alluded to the different roles that Christianity plays and the questions that this religion is able to answer.
After the students made their comments pertaining to his talk, Ms. Soon Young Lee explained the definition and development of the Focolare Movement as well as the beliefs that it stipulates.
